The composition and motif of the Israelites gathering the manna faithfully reproduces the central field of a tapestry from the workshop of Martin Reymonts, conserved in the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Chartres. This series of eleven tapestries illustrating the life of Moses originally decorated the walls of the cathedral of Chartres for the coronation of Henri IV in 1594.
