SMALL TOWER CLOCK WITH REAR PENDULUM
Southern German, 17th century.
Copper, chased and engraved with flowers, fruits, and foliage, and gilt. Rectangular closed case on a profiled stepped base with flattened feet. The corners of the case are decorated with pilasters, and the sides have arched glazed openings. Domed belfry with balustrade and obelisks in the corners and as a finial. Engraved chapter ring with Roman hour numerals and Arabic minute numerals. Rear dial for the striking mechanism, engraved with tendrils and a bird, with remnants of enamel decoration. Movement with verge escapement and rear pendulum (originally probably with balance wheel). Hour strike on bell. Originally with alarm (missing). Winding key missing.
