Provenance:
- Peter Ducret Collection, Kilchberg, acquired at the above auction.
The "Künersberg Doré", a term used for the gilt borders and these characteristic ornamental borders, was combined with German flowers, insects and birds, as well as with painted cartouches. Initials have been identified within this group, including the calligraphic ornaments "E" and "A" associated with Anna Elisabeth Auffenwerth-Wald of the Augsburg Hausmaler workshop ("Künersberg" exhibition 1995, p. 110). For a comparable example, see Bayerisches Nationalmuseum, Munich, inv. no. 34/1881 (Paul Heiland Collection).
