Literature:
- Emil Setz: Schmetterlingsmotive auf Fayencen von Strassburg und Lunéville Im 18. Jahrhundert, in KFS, 123/2010, p. 21, fig. 1.
The corresponding printed sources by Robert and Vauquer are illustrated in Bastian 2003, p. 43. "Fleurs Esseulées" decoration is characterized by a large central "main flower", accompanied by further flowers and frequently by insects.
Setz points out in his article that Strasbourg faience enjoyed great popularity in the 18th century and was accordingly highly successful on the market. Its decorative schemes were widely imitated by other manufactories, including Lunéville and Lenzburg. He further notes that the characteristic butterfly decoration was already used before 1748 in the "grand feu" technique and can be documented until circa 1754. Thereafter, Paul and subsequently Joseph Hannong abandoned this motif and concentrated primarily on floral decoration.
