A PAIR OF CANDELABRA “AUX VICTOIRES”

Restauration, Paris, ca. 1820, after a model by Pierre-Philippe Thomire (1751-1843) for the Élysée Palace in Paris.
Dark patinated and gilded bronze. Winged Victoria on a cylindrical base engraved with a diamond lattice with a hemisphere and square stepped foot. Two light branches in the hands of the Victoria in the form of a basket of fruit and flowers and a profiled central torch with a bouquet of flowers on the head. Partly loose spout inserts.
H 54 cm.

Cf. for an almost identical pair of candelabra for the Salon du comte de Nantouillet in the Élysée Palace in Paris (Mobilier National, inv. no. GML 2884/002). In contrast to the candelabra on offer, the Parisian counterpart has an additional torch on Victoria's head and the flower bouquets in her hands are somewhat flatter in shape.
