Strasbourg, Paul Hannong period, 1745–48.
Faience, of small open form with a tulip bud on an elongated terrain base modelled in relief, naturalistically modelled and painted in high-temperature colors. Unmarked. The underside with the old inventory inscription of the Heinrich Angst Collection, "HA 4036", in red.
H 10.8 cm.
Minor chips to the edges of the leaves. Minimal restorations.

Provenance:
- Heinrich Angst Collection (1847–1922).
- Swiss National Museum, Zurich; received as a donation from the above in 1903.
- Peter Ducret Collection, Kilchberg; received from the above in 2002 through an exchange.

According to written records, this egg cup from the Heinrich Angst Collection, "HA 4036", was donated to the Swiss National Museum in Zurich in 1903. The records also note that Angst attributed the piece to the Lenzburg manufactory. As this attribution proved untenable, the egg cup was "exchanged" with Peter Ducret in 2002.

Comparable examples with variations in the form of the base and the treatment of the leaves are illustrated in: "Palais Rohan Strasbourg" 1975, p. 75, no. 122; Sotheby’s Zurich, 24 November 1992, lot 133; and Sotheby’s Zurich, 6 April 1973, lot 61.
