Peter Ducret Collection, Kilchberg.

In his biography of Théodore Deck, André Girodie describes how a journey to Venice and a visit to the Basilica of San Marco, with its golden mosaics, inspired the gold grounds of Deck’s faience creations ("Biographies Alsaciennes XIII: Théodore Deck", in "Revue Alsacienne illustrée", 1903, pp. 45–60).
