LADY'S DESK,

so-called "secrétaire à dos d'âne", Transition, France, probably Montbéliard ca. 1775/80.
Walnut, domestic and in part tinted exotic woods, inlaid with a crowned coat of arms, marquetry, fillets and reserves. Curved rectangular body, with curved legs. Front with inclined, hinged writing surface, the inside lined with brown leather, over 2 drawers, the upper drawer divided in 2. Fitted interior with 2 stacked drawers, below a central compartment divided in 2, flanked on each side by 3 drawers below a compartment divided in 2. Secret compartment. Bronze mounts. 1 key.
