Provenance:
- Rachlis collection, received directly from the artist as a gift on 17.2.1959.
- Private collection, Switzerland.

The double number 29-30 of the art magazine "Verve" 1953/1954 was entirely dedicated to Picasso and contained 180 of his drawings (see lot 3253).
In the present artwork, Picasso reworked a title page from this revue and gave it to Henri Rachlis, an industrialist and art collector from Saint-Etienne who owned a considerable collection of paintings, drawings and books. The page is colored with felt-tip pen right up to the edges and the sweeping, sketchy strokes depict an artist with a palette and easel in front of a nude model.
In the same year, Picasso also dedicated a cover page of his book "La Guerre et la Paix" to Rachli's wife.
