HELBARD

Swiss, last quarter of the 17th century. Solothurn, so-called "Sempacher helbard".
Solid, flat tip, central ridge with square reinforcement away from the tip, blade with convex edge, in part defective and chipped, Solothurn coat of arms embossed with two punch marks. Two-part, flat beak-shaped hook with curved tip. Two long langets. Octagonal shaft, older restoration.
L 216.5 cm.

Extremely rare variant of the "Sempacher helbards" which were produced in Switzerland after 1656 and procured by Berne and Zurich, cf. Wegeli, Stangenwaffen, Hist.
