Japan, Meiji period, length 26 cm, 14,5 cm (blade).
Brass mounted scabbard and handle, engraved and relief decor of insects, plants and the Three Leaves of Hollyhock mon. Also known as mamori-gatana or futokoro-gatana, which were mainly worn by women hidden in the kimono and used for self-defense or put in the obi when wearing a wedding kimono.
