CEREMONIAL SWORD

Italian, ca. 1750/60, Genoa.
Silver hilt, made of cast and forged parts. Spherical pommel, rivet head, knuckle guard, quillons with thickened ends, ornamental grip hook, guard blade with mark, solid grip. All parts of the hilt with opulent decoration. Blade with triangular cross-section, fullered (L 82.3 cm). Original scabbard covered with reptile skin, and with silver mounts, suspension rings and chiseled decoration. Also included iron suspension hooks with chains and snap springs, in the late Louis XVI style.

The Genoese ceremonial sword on offer has a magnificent silver hilt in the Rococo style revealing the French influence, and is of a rare quality and completeness. Cf.
