PAIR OF ELEGANT CONSOLES-DESSERTES

Late Directory, Paris, 19th century. In the style of Adam Weisweiler (maître 1778), manufactured for the English market.
Flamed mahogany, and chiseled and gilt bronze mounts. Rectangular, white/gray marble top, probably Carrara marble "blanc veiné", edged in bronze. Front with three drawers. Pillar-shaped legs with brass fluting, and bronze capitals. Spherical feet with sabots. Finely fluted "mille-railles" brass reserves. 2 keys.
160 x 55.5 x 91.5 cm.

The origin and the design of these consoles-dessertes probably go back to the Parisian 'Marchand Mercier' Dominique Daguerre.

A console-desserte, almost identical except for the proportions and the top, from the Jane Wrightsman Collection, was sold by Christie's New York on 14 October 2020 (Lot No. 130). Another console-desserte, almost identical except for the marble used, was auctioned by Christie's London on 12 June 2003 (Lot No. 49).
