Provenance: Private collection, Suisse romande.
The first Nymphenburg service with Perl molded parts was made by Dominik Aulicek between 1792 and 1795 for an order from the Prince-Elector. A hundred years later, to mark the Golden Wedding Anniversary of the last Bavarian King Ludwig III (1845-1921) and his wife Queen Marie Therese, née Archduchess of Austria-Este, a service comprising 360 pieces was made using the old molds. That service also bore fine sepia vedute showing landscape and palace views with scenes from the life of the royal couple, so that looking at the service was like leafing through a family photo album. A large part of this royal service is now exhibited in the Museum of the Bavarian Kings in Hohenschwangau. For the early models of Aulicek, see A. Ziffer, The Bäuml Collection, 1997, pp.194 and 195.
