A PAIR OF MOUNTED CACHE-POTS

The porcelain: China, Kangxi, mid-18th century. The gilt bronze mount: Régence, Paris, ca. 1720.
The cache-pots are slightly conical in shape with a bulbous form, glazed blue and decorated with white plum blossoms (“cracked ice and prunes”). The gilt mount has a gadrooned rim and a matching, slightly flared flat foot, connected by two openwork brackets with acanthus leaves and arched handles.
Ø 20.5 (max. 25 cm), H 19 cm.
Porcelain restored, gilding rubbed.

Provenance:
- The Fanny and Bernard Watel Collection, Lausanne.
- Passed down by inheritance to the current owners.

Cf. Luigi Anton Laura for an almost identical, individual cache-pot: Les objets montés. Exhibition catalogue Monaco 1989, No. 17, and Sotheby's Paris auction, Collection de monsieur et madame Luigi Anton Laura, 27 June 2001, Lot No. 24. The design of the lateral handles probably goes back to a silver-mounted bowl of the same type, which Elector Maximilian II Emanuel of Bavaria (1662–1726) ordered in Paris (cf. Bavarian National Museum Munich, Inv. No. Ker 1944 or Pascal Izarn: Les porcelaines montées au XVIIIème siècle. Paris, undated, p. 18, No. 6).
