AN EXCEPTIONALLY LARGE POTTERY FIGURE OF A RHINO. China, Han dynasty, length 111 cm. TL tested, Oxford.

Graues Terracottatier in beeindruckender Grösse und relativ schlankem Körperbau. Aufgrund der zwei Hörner ist anzunehmen, dass es sich um einen Vorfahren des heutigen Sumatra-Nashorns handelt, welches in grossen Teilen Südostasiens und in Südchina zuhause war. Das Brennen von Figuren in dieser Grösse setzte grosses technisches Können voraus.
