IMPORTANT CLOCK "AUX TROIS FIGURES D'ATLAS" WITH PLANETARIUM AND ARMILLARY SPHERE,Directory/Empire, the hour dial signed INV.FEC MARTINENGO HR A PARIS, after designs by C. PERCIER (Charles Percier, 1764-1838) and P.F.L. FONTAINE (Pierre François Léonard Fontaine, 1762-1853), the bronzes by the MAISON JACOB, Paris ca. 1820. White marble, and gilt and patinated bronze. Triangular case with 3 figures of Atlas carrying the planetarium and armillary sphere. The sides each with a dial; the first with hours and minutes in Arabic numerals, the second with a finely painted moon phase "Phase de lune", the third with date, days of the week and "quantième". Fine anchor movement "à complications", connected to the gilt planetarium. In the centre of the planetarium: the Sun in gilt bronze, the Earth and the Moon, surrounded by Mars, Jupiter with 4 moons, Saturn and Mercury in ivory. Supported by 4 armillary rings with "colure des equinox", "colure des solstices", "colure du mois" and "colure des signes zodiaques". Exquisite bronze mounts and applications designed as garlands, Apollo and Venus mascarons, depiction of Psyche in relief. 34x34x89 cm. Provenance: From a Belgian private collection.
