A VERY FINE MINIATURE PAINTING OF KRISHNA AND A FAINTED YOUNG WOMAN. India, Kangra, circa 1820, 22x15.5 cm. Velvet box.
Provenienz: Schweizer Privatsammlung, vor 1953 erworben, durch Erbschaft an die aktuellen Besitzer. Die Miniatur ist eine Illustration zu einem lose beigelegten Gedicht in Devanagari. Ein Brief von 1953 an den damaligen Besitzer liefert eine romanisierte Fassung sowie eine englische Übersetzung und ist als anonymisierte Kopie verfügbar. Provenance: Swiss private collection, acquired before 1953, thence by descent. The painting is an illustration to a poem written in devanagari which comes loosely with it. A young lady faints hearing Krishna playing the flute while her attendants believe that she might has been bitten by a snake. A letter dated 1953 to the owner at that time gives a romanised version and an English translation. An anonymised copy of this letter will be available.
