BARTHÉLÉMY THALAMAS

(Toulouse, active c. 1850–1860)
Portraits, c. 1850–1860. 2 original photographs.
Daguerreotypes.
Quarter plates; oval and octagonal windows, approx. 9 × 7 cm (visible measurements); overall dimension each approx. 15 × 13 cm.
Verso of each mounted with photographer's label with address "Avenue de Clichy, 99, Batignolles, Paris" and "Place de la Trinité 15 Toulouse". The latter mounted under mat with drawn framing lines. Wooden frame of the period (18.5 × 7 cm and 23.5 × 21 cm).


Provenance:
- Collection, France.
- Private collection, Switzerland.

The Toulouse label can be found in the collection of the Musée d'Orsay in Paris, where it is attributed to the photographer.

1. Plate oxidised at the edges, slightly spotted, mounting probably partly broken, the old backing partly torn and with pronounced soiling and slight moisture staining, the glass dusty on inside; 2. Probably opened and bathed, slightly scratched, the mat slightly stained, the label partially torn in the margins or with small losses (slight text loss).
