Italy, probably Rome (Vatican City State), beginning of the 18th century.
Woven and embroidered with silver- and gold-thread. Central monogram of Christ IHS surrounded by four applied Papal coats-of-arms with the crossed keys of St. Peter and the tiara. Floral decoration.
67 × 60 cm.

This textile, probably an antependium, is extraordinarily finely worked and decorated with applied coats-of-arms cartouches. Based on the applied Papal coats-of-arms, it can be assumed that this antependium may come from the Vatican.
