ROYAL TABLE PSYCHE MIRROR "AU FLORE ET ZEPHIRE",Empire/Restauration, by M.G. BIENNAIS (Martin Guillaume Biennais, Lacochère 1764-1843 Paris), Paris circa 1820. Matte and polished gilt bronze, also embossed. The arched pivoting mirror with the matrimonial coat of arms of the dukal and royal Wurttemberg house. The coat of arms flanked by 2 reclining female figures; the frame flanked by the figures of Flora and Zephyr. With exceptionally fine chasing and embossing with egg and dart ornament and frieze, with flowers, beading, lotus and acanthus leaves. In addition, the relief depiction of Abundantia, Apollo and Minerva. Original mirror plate. Freestanding. H 100 cm, W 79 cm. Provenance: - Gift from King Wilhelm I. (1781-1864) to his wife Pauline von Württemberg (1800-1873) on the occasion of their wedding in April 1820. - Exhibited as the important piece in the Queen's trousseau. - via inheritance in the collection of King Karl von Württemberg (1823-1891), then to Wilhelm II. of Württemberg (1842-1921). - After 1921 in the collection of the house of Württemberg. - Henschel collection, Kassel. - Swiss collection.

Bronze matt- und glanzvergoldet sowie punziert. Schwenkbarer, bogenförmig abschliessender Spiegelrahmen mit Allianzwappen des Herzoglichen und Königlichen Württembergischen Hauses als Aufsatz, auf mit Lorbeerkranz beschmücktem Postament mit kauernden Sphingen. Das Wappen wird flankiert von 2 liegenden Frauenfiguren mit Lorbeerkranz, der Rahmen von 2 vollplastisch gestalteten, stehenden Figuren; Flora und Zephyr. Ausserordentlich feine Bronzeziselierung und -punzierung mit Eierstab, Pfeifenfries mit eingestellten Blumen, Perlstab und Blütenband, Lotus- und Akanthusblatt sowie Wellenranken und die Reliefdarstellungen von Abundantia, Apollo mit Lyra und Minerva mit Schild und Lanze. Originales Spiegelglas. Zum Freistellen. H 100 cm, B 79 cm.
