PENDULE "AU NEGRILLON PORTEUR",Directoire, the bronzes by J.S. DEVERBERIE (Jean-Simon Deverberie, died 1824), the dial signed LORY A PARIS (probably Germain Claude Lory, active circa 1789/1810), Paris circa 1800. Matte and polished gilt bronze and burnished bronze. With standing Moor in loin cloth holding the round clock case on his head. On plinth with paw feet and decorated with masks, garlands and beading. The clock with enamel dial and gilt brass movement striking the 1/2 hours on bell. Fine bronze mounts and applications. 14x14x45 cm. Provenance: Private collection, Germany. The pen drawing with watercolour is numbered 10 and is now in the Bibliothèque Nationale at the Cabinet des Estampes. A clock of the same model is in the Duesberg collection, Brussels.
