BUREAU CABINET, known as a "trumeau," Baroque, probably Lombardy circa 1720/30. Shaped and partly ebonized walnut burlwood and local fruitwoods with inlays. Front with fall-front writing surface above 3 drawers. Interior with large central compartment with inlays and free-standing corner columns flanked by drawers and compartments. Reset, mirrored upper section with double doors over 2 small pull-out shelves. Interior of upper section fitted with drawers and compartments. 3 secret compartments opened by pressing decorative volutes. Gilt bronze mounts. 116x47x(open 81)x245 cm.
