LEICKERT, CHARLES HENRI JOSEPH
Brussels 1816–1907 Mainz
Charles Leickert was born in Brussels in 1816, but later moved to The Hague, where he was apprenticed to Bart van Hove (1790–1880), Wijnand Nuijen (1813–1839) and Andreas Schelfhout (1787–1870). The Hague paintings, produced between 1841 and 1849, are considered his best works. Some of his works are among the highlights of Dutch Romanticism, with brilliant townscapes, river and winter landscapes being the main features of that period.
