MANTEL SET "LE LION DE NIMRUD",Napoleon III, Paris circa 1880. Black stone and burnished bronze; the fronts each with engraved, slightly Egyptian motifs on red ground. Clock: the case surmounted by standing "Lion of Nimrud", the sides with 2 sitting, Egyptian-like figures. Enamel dial with red/golden Roman hours. Brass movement striking the 1/2 hours on gong. Requires servicing. Ornamental vases: amphora-shaped with 2 Assyrian male heads. Clock: 47x15x52 cm. Vases: H 39 cm. Provenance: - Formerly in the collections of the Aspinalls Club, London. - From an English collection.
