PLEADING HANDS,fragment of a so-called "figure gisante", Renaissance, Limoges, 14th century. Gilt copper. The arms covered with buttoned gloves. The left small finger with ring with green stone. The gilding rubbed. Mounted on an ebonized wooden base. H 31.5 cm. Provenance: - Traditionally considered to be from the former Robert Kahn-Sriber collection, Paris. - From an important collection. With expertise by Prof. Dr. G. Freuler, Zurich, 27.8.1998. With material analysis by Dr. P. Northover, University of Oxford, #R811. With second material report by Aventis, Research & Technologies, 29.7.1998. The hands offered here are in the licentiate thesis by Ms. K. Holderegger, under Professor Dr. N. Gramaccini at the University of Berne 1998, described in detail and set in the historical context of the "figures gisantes".
