21-PIECE MONKEY BAND,

Meissen, model J. J. Kändler and P. Reinicke, contemporary design, after 1934.
Each figure on a rocaille base, accentuated in gold. Meissen porcelain, underglaze blue sword marks, contemporary model numbers 60001 to 60022 and mark for the year impressed on each item .
H 9 cm to 17.5 cm. Slightly repaired and chipped. (22)

The monkey band was part of the "singerie" genre which was very popular in the mid-18th century and used to portray human weaknesses. Even the Marquise de Pompadour owned a 19-part monkey band which she acquired from the Parisian art dealer Lazare Duvaux in 1753. The band members were often based on drawings by the animal portrait painter Christophe Huet (1700-1759).
