19th Century Paintings
The 19th century is one of the most multifaceted periods in the history of fine art. The wide variety of styles, which often co-existed and/or overlapped in time, include Salon and Historical painting, Neo-Classicism and Romanticism, Plein Air painting and the Barbizon School. It was often a time of opposing trends: Realism and Symbolism, for example, or Naturalism and Impressionism. In Koller’s auctions all of the artistic genres and styles are represented: marine paintings by the celebrated Russian artist Ivan Aivasovsky, landscapes by Corot, as well as paintings from the Munich and Düsseldorf schools and early Impressionism by artists such as Eugène Boudin.
